Today’sΒ challenge from NaPoWriMo is to Simply pick a poem from the Plath poetry calendar, and then write a poem that responds or engages with your chosen Plath poem in some way.
I decided to go with this poem by Sylvia Plath.
Behind the shimmering veilΒ
I hope behind the veil is what i wished for all year,
is it round or is it flat?
I know i will love it, i will ensure i treasure it,
it wants me to hold it and open it gently,
its reading my mind, i can see it looking at me.
Will i look good when i appear with it?
will the black eye- pits and scar be visible?
Let me concentrate as i cook,
i want to ensure the flour is enough,
let me just follow the every step to the later.
Now i know this is what was to be announced,
jokes on them, cause its no longer a surprise.
The gaze it gives me, i think it wants me to caress it,
if they are bones or a pearl button, i will use it for decoration.
I didn’t feel that i deserved a present,
been alive is just a daily miracle.
I stopped before i could kill myself,
now whats behind the veil and the shimmers.
Let me stop guessing what’s behind the veil,
i will appreciate anything i get.
Is it a must you give it to me?
it might be tiny but its still okay with me.
